I bought 6 of these large painting knives last year on clearance at my local art / hobby store. At the time, I wasn’t exactly sure how I would use them. But since I like to paint large the purchase was a no-brainer for me.
Liquitex produces 36 different shapes and sizes of these large stainless steel painting knives. They spread, scrape, blob, slather, and distribute paint in any combination of possibilities. I use them a lot with texture mediums.
The fun part about them for me is when you get one in each hand, you feel quite like a Hibachi Chef at a Japanese Steakhouse. These are NOT quiet tools. Expect lots of clanking and clattering if you hold one in each hand.
I rate these knives a winner for quality, handles are nice and the blades are stainless steel. Very smooth so they clean up quickly with a wipe of a damp paper towel.
If you are a knife painter exclusively, these blades are not as flexible as you are accustomed to using with smaller painting knives. I would describe these as better suited for slathering around on LARGE canvases — these are not intended for detail work.
